Latta High School Future Farmers of America Present Check to Marion-Dillon County Habitat for Humanity

Several high school organizations joined in a fund raising event of decorating Christmas trees at the Latta Performing Arts Center during the holiday season. Votes were cast by patrons by making a donation under the tree they liked the best. Each organization had a charity in mind when they decorated their tree. For the Future Farmers of America, their choice was Habitat for Humanity. Their tree garnered $191.91 in votes! They presented that check to Jim Kirkland, Assistant Director of Marion-Dillon County Habitat for Humanity. Rev. Kirkland expressed his gratitude for these students selecting Habitat as their charity of choice and for the generous donation that will be used in building the first ever Habitat for Humanity house in Dillon County. This house is currently under construction in Lake View, SC.

About Us

Marion-Dillon County Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build decent, affordable family housing. The houses are then sold to our partnering families at no profit and with no interest cost.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, while individual, church, civic and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partnering families must invest 300 hundred hours of labor ("sweat equity") into building their homes and the homes of other potential Habitat homeowners. Habitat homeowner mortgage payments go into a revolving fund. Those funds are then used to build more houses.
